Treehouse View
My wife Mary Ann and I live in a lovely neighborhood that balances growing families with nature's beautiful array of flowers and foliage. Our home overlooks a backyard with many mature trees—enough to enjoy real privacy and the feeling of having our own wooded area with sturdy branches that provide shelter for songbirds, squirrels, and an occasional owl or two. Chipmunks, rabbits, and other assorted creatures are frequent guests in our yard; and sometimes in the early morning, we see white-tailed deer pass by the house.
A Verdant Canopy
In our bedroom, we enjoy a “treehouse view” all year round. We see a majestic canopy of tree branches: lush green in the spring and summer, multicolored in the fall, and snow-covered in the winter. In every season, the view is magical—even mystical—especially at daybreak and again at sunset.
At these different times, the sunlight streams through the trees in equally different directions, creating visual magic that sometimes leaves us in awe. Our treehouse view is often the backdrop for deep and prayerful conversation and silent meditation.
Prayerful Setting
As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Prayer is the contemplation of the facts of life from the highest point of view.” We are certainly blessed to contemplate life from our home’s highest point of view, which to us is truly heavenly.
